FANTASMATICAis an initiative promoted by the Animation! and Blood Window sections of the Ventana Sur Audiovisual market.

The aim of the call is to encourage collaboration and exchange between professionals in the animation and fantasy film industry.

We are looking for innovative, creative projects with a unique vision that stand out in the field of animation and fantasy genre.

Five finalist projects will be selected, granting them access to mentoring with leading members of the industry during the 2023 edition of Ventana Sur and will also compete for important prizes.

ELIGIBILITY

• The call is open to short animated film projects within the fantasy and horror genre.
• Only projects in the development stage are eligible to participate.
• Short film projects up to a maximum duration of 25 minutes are accepted.
• Only Latin American projects, including co-productions involving a Latin American majority partner, can be registered.
• For hybrid productions (live action + animation), the projects will only be considered if they have at least a 50% of animation.
• The projects may be presented by the author and/or producer.
• Only projects whose paperwork is complete (entry form and materials submitted) and have been sent before the deadline will be considered.
• The deadline for submitting all material is Tuesday, August 29th, 2023.

VIDEO PITCH

• When completing the online application form, applicants must include a link to a video pitch.
• This video will complement the entries and should serve as a tool to get to know the projects applying to FANTASMATICA 2023 better.
• The video must have the following specifications:
• Maximum length: 2 minutes
• Image format: horizontal
• Language: Spanish or original language with subtitles in Spanish or English. The subtitles must be embedded in the image.
• Additional suggestions: consider shooting in an environment with good lighting and good sound quality (avoid ambient noise).
• Answer the following questions:
  • What is your motivation to make the project happen?
  • Why should this project be part of FANTASMATICA?
  • What does the project need?

• Video pitches that do not follow any of the guidelines or that are submitted after the deadline will not be considered.

SELECTION AND SUPPORT

• Up to 5 projects will be selected
• The selected projects will be announced in mid-October.
• The finalist projects will be part of the FANTASMATICA selection and will have access to mentoring, special meetings and training activities.  These will be carried out online prior to the start of the market and in person between November 27th and December 1st within the framework of Ventana Sur 2023.
• Selected projects must have at least one representative at the market to attend the activities planned by FANTASMATICA.
• The authors will have the opportunity to share the pitch of their projects and promote them to the international industry professionals accredited at the event.
• One representative per selected project will receive a complimentary accreditation for Ventana Sur 2023.
• Travel and accommodation expenses remain the responsibility of the selected companies.
• Both pitching and training sessions with the experts and the jury will be held entirely in English.

AWARDS

A jury of specialists will select a winning project to be presented at the 2024 edition of WEIRD Animation, Video games & New Media Market (Spain).The prize includes accreditation, meals, and accommodation for one representative.

In the event that the project has multiple representatives, the additional accreditations will be covered by each production company.

The jury will also choose one project to receive the prize granted by Cine Qua Non Lab (Mexico). Thanks to this award, the winning project will receive 2 follow-up consultancies by specialists from the Mexican screenwriting lab.

These awards will be announced during the awards ceremony at Ventana Sur.

GENERAL CONDITIONS

• Registration is free
• All selected projects and information about the authors will be listed on the Market, Animation! and Blood Window websites and social networks.
• The information and images submitted might be used in promotional materials of FANTASMATICA and/or Ventana Sur Audiovisual Market
• Any circumstance not foreseen in these Terms and Conditions will be resolved by the event authorities.
• The organization reserves the right to revoke the Jury’s decision if necessary.
• By accepting these current terms and conditions, you authorize FANTASMATICA Ventana Sur to reproduce and broadcast, free of charge, on all their communication media, graphical and audiovisual elements that are provided by you during registration.
• The registration for the presentation of a project implies the unconditional acceptance of the present regulations and, in case of selection of the project, the commitment of the presence of a representative at the event.
• Prizes are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash or any other similar service/activity.

SUBMISSION DOCUMENTS:

A – The completed online application form including the link to the video pitch.

B –  A single PDF file including all the following information in English:

• Title (Original title & English title) & Country (include co-production countries if any).
• Production Company information (email, telephone, website).
• Technical information (length, number of episodes in the case of series, animation technique, genre and target audience).
• Logline (summary of the project in one sentence).
• Short synopsis (summary of the story) max. 500 characters.
• Concept: idea, graphic and musical treatment etc (max. half page).
• Available graphic elements: backgrounds/sets, characters, model sheets, and any other materials that the project holder(s) think(s) worth including (first images, link to an online trailer/teaser etc.).
• Name and Bio of the author(s), director, scriptwriter and producer (max. 300 characters each).
• A project progress sheet, with information about the development stage and details about the future schedule.
• An estimation of the budget in American dollars (USD) and funding requirements. Please include the acquired % of the budget (ex. 20%) and information about funding and any grants collected. Also list previous participation of your project in Markets, Workshops or Labs.
• A note explaining the copyright situation of the project (sent to a writer’s association, transfer of rights if the subject is taken from a work that already exists).

Please make sure all the files are named with the original title of the project. Remember that your entry will not be completed until you have sent all the submission documents.
